The Root of Chinese Philosophies

A Multipolar Civil War Was Good for...Scholarship??

Let's recap the Warring States era of China.

This is when all major Chinese philosophies got popularized. Legalists, Daoists, Mohists, Confucians- this was the crucible that forged them.

Around the 700s BC, Western Zhou falls, breaking succession.

The Zhou go to the East, where they re-establish succession and rule as figureheads until the 400s.

It turns into a seven state free-for-all war, with alliances shifting like tumbleweed on the prairie.

Yan, Zhao (not to be confused with Zhou), Han, Wei, Qi (not to be confused with Qin), Chu, Qin. At this point, succession is completely shattered.

254 years of civil war. 254 years!

And who wins? It's Qin.

Led by none other than the man, the myth, the legend: Qin Shi Huang.
