The Anabaptists You Know

Various Levels of Enclave Culture

Last Friday, as I was leaving a gas station, a man asked, "Excuse me sir, but what boots are those?"

I turned around and answered him. He was wearing Bluetooth headphones, a green t-shirt, and jeans. I would never have known he was some flavor of Anabaptist were it not for his wife's head covering (a "kapp"), and the four young kids in tow.

His wife spoke for him regarding his interest in the boots. They'd lived in Zimbabwe. Now they lived in Kansas and were heading west.

Mennonites.

The Amish are easiest to spot with their stance on technology.

Others, like the Hutterites, are more comfortable with it.

But probably the Anabaptists you see most often are Mennonites.
