What Stops Tribes From Spreading

How come bee colonies don't spread like ant colonies do?

You’ve no doubt heard about ant supercolonies that have territory over thousands of miles.

Why doesn’t this happen with bees?

As it turns out, ants use scent to identify each other. Bees use only co-location. So bees kill off bees from other hives.

The ability of an ant hive to identify members of sister hives lets ant colonies spread like plant cuttings.

“The culture will be like plant cuttings that can grow into whole plants from a cutting of a small part.”
