Predator-Prey Reversals

We’ve covered this before in the newsletter, but it seemed time to trot it out again.

The Nez Perce have a version of the story of Coyote and an All-Eating Monster.

The Monster eats all the animals and people in the land. Eventually, it eats Coyote, but Coyote builds a fire inside it, and cuts everyone free of the Monster.

Predators expend a lot of energy in chasing down prey.

However, some prey learn to take advantage of this package delivery of energy.

Reversals that aren’t on an evolutionary timescales following a different pattern: adult prey taking down juvenile predators.
