La Malinche
translation, a bridge between the conquered and the conquerors
She had at least three names: Malinche, Marina, and Malintzin.
A noble enslaved and given as a gift to the Spaniards.
First, she was Puertocarrero’s slave. Then, Hernan Cortes realized she knew more than one language. He took her as a translator, then as a concubine.
When Moctezuma and Cortes met on the causeway, it was Malinche who translated their words.
She bore Cortes’ first son. Helped him squash a Honduran rebellion.
