We got a manual milk frother some months ago.

I love the way it results a silky, even froth. It's hard to get that with a battery-powered wand, and, judging by the results in most cafes, hard for most people to get it out of a steam wand.

Before Marie Kondo, I was exposed to a simple question to aid with packing lists: "will this aid the mission while using the least energy possible?"

• Will it take a beating

• Is it easy to maintain with hacks when it inevitably breaks

• Is it absolutely necessary to get the job done

But there are also ineffables. EXCEPT they are describable, so long as they are grounded in analogies you have easy access to.

Usually some variation of "how does it make your body feel when trying to do X".
