Will the United States Survive Space Colonization?
Hyperamerica
Hyped by Danielle Fong (one of those minds working on energy storage), it seems like the idea of Hyperamerica is picking up energy.
Sure, anyone obsessed with flag design might have words against it, but it stands for something.
What, exactly? This tweet has a clue.
A Trillion United States Of America

The idea of a federation of states founded on English notions of liberty, extending past the solar system.
This does make sense in light of Robin Hanson’s The Rapacious Hardscrapple Frontier, which we talked about before when we talked about seeds. We looked at what the design and function of seeds said about how we might spread out into the galaxy.
This means no centralized nation could survive expansion into space.
But maybe a federation could.
This isn’t a completely new idea.
In 1893, a congressional representative from Wisconsin proposed a “United States of Earth”. One step closer to a ‘United States of Space’.
Yet ‘Hyperamerica’ has something else going on.
A hint of frenzy.
Whatever it is, the details of the flag’s design are on Github.
@DanielleFong@noisebridge the design of the flag is computed with rust. code is available here
