Yan, in the northeast, in what is now Beijing.

Qi, in the Shandong Peninsula.

Qin, isolated in the far west around the Wei River Valley.

Jin, in the center of the Shanxi plateau.

These were the vassals with real power. Then, the Jin split into three:

• Han, along the Yellow River approaching the Qin

• Wei, around Henan

• Zhao, around Hebei
