Does your team really want it?

When have you needed people most?

A lot of my adult life has been re-discovering the old Hansonian 'X is not about X' claims, but in deeply personal ways.

Education is not about learning. The military was not about winning wars. Most companies I've worked for are not about profit.

A lot of "coordination problems" are coordination for a result that does not match stated wants.

So where do people actually want the thing?

Hard places benefit cooperation in the long-term.

This is because you need people more, when the environment is harsh.

At least, that's what this model suggests.
