Can you be non-violent?
When circles of care involve insects but not plants
There's a squirrel running across the road. I swerve to avoid it.
The person in the passenger seat laughs at me. Earlier that week we had just practiced ways to kill a human being.
I'm no Jain. The moments I choose Ahimsa are a little different.
Ahimsa is commonly translated as non-violence.
For me, it's 'not-thrusting-to-create-wounds-that-cause-fear'.
Everything has a cost, that is karma.
A $7 latte on my bank statement is one thing. A $7 latte on my bank statement that I have no knowledge of is quite another.
Let our harms be intended. Let them have a purpose.
